Maxillofacial Prosthetics is a highly specialised aspect of prosthetic rehabilitation. Both our Clinical Prosthetics Specialists are qualified in this area, and therefore it is part of the service we offer. It is the prosthetic rehabilitation or correction of the head and neck areas where they are either defective or completely missing. These deficiencies may be due to traumatic injury, surgery (the ablation of cancer for example), growth defects, disease or congenital malformation. The rehabilitation is achieved in the same way as prosthetics for the rest of the body, with non-living tissue substitutes such as silicones, which are produced using the same processes. |

This type of prosthetic rehabilitation can involve the nose, ear, orbit, or any combination of structures within the head and neck region such as the oral cavity, jaw and palate. A Maxillofacial Prosthetist can also provide treatment appliances such as burn compression splints, orthopaedic appliances, radiation masks and keloid splints. Hand crafted eyes are created in acrylic and silicone materials |
